About Us
Newfound Sound was formed in 1985 with just 12 members. It received charter status in 1988 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and officially entered Area 1, the Atlantic provinces, with 16 chapters. Today, under the direction of Anita Power Taylor, Newfound Sound regularly has between 30-40 members actively performing, competing, and participating in numerous community and chapter events.
Every year, the chorus competes at the Area 1 Contest and Convention (AC&C) which provides an opportunity to compete at the Annual International Convention and Competition (IC&C). The chorus has qualified on numerous occasions for competition at IC&C. We also regularly compete in various festivals and competitions including the annual Kiwanis Music Festival in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Several awards have been received for its fine annual performances.
Our charitable activities include performing at Sing for Care (www.lesms.ca/singforcare.html) and local senior residences. We have graciously supported The Autism Society (www.autism.nf.net/) and more recently Iris Kirby House (www.iriskirbyhouse.nf.net/).
The Director and Members of Newfound Sound extend an invitation to all women interested in singing barbershop harmony to contact us.
